Draw US States on a Terrain Map

Fifty states with their names and borders hidden. Use cities, mountains, rivers and coasts as clues. Circle a state from memory or draw the border between two neighbours, then see exactly where you drifted.

Draw a region (50 questions) Draw a shared border (103 questions)

Two ways to play

Draw a region: circle the state. Square states like Colorado and Wyoming are easy to place but hard to size; coastal states only need the land side, because the sea never counts. Draw a shared border: trace the line between two neighbours, from the Oklahoma panhandle against Texas to the river border between Kentucky and Indiana.

Coverage and scoring

All 50 states have outline questions; the District of Columbia is shown on the map but not asked. Border questions exist for every pair of states that shares a land border of 40 km or more. Alaska and Hawaii are outline questions with their own viewports. Scores follow the site-wide scoring rules; state boundaries come from the US Census Bureau (see map data).

How do I draw the states from memory?

Start with a distinctive coast, river bend or corner, then close a ring around the land you think belongs to the state. In this US states border game, switch to Move to reposition the map without adding strokes. Submit to see missed and extra land, then try again: practice retries do not change your daily score.
